Local tips on record

Best time to visit
October to March is crisp and clear. June–September is deep-green monsoon — beautiful, but check road and trek status daily.
Roads to avoid
Charmadi Ghat after dark in monsoon; the Kemmangundi backroad via Lingadahalli when it rains — take the Birur route instead.
Mobile network
Jio is the most reliable across estates. Airtel is fine in town and main roads. Vi struggles beyond town. BSNL surprises you in remote pockets.
Weather
Evenings drop 8–10°C below daytime year-round. One warm layer, always, even in April.
Local food
Malnad breakfast is the event: akki rotti, kadubu, benne dose, filter coffee. Most cafés and messes close by 9 PM — eat early.
Festivals
Coffee blossom (Feb–Mar) turns estates white and fragrant for exactly a week — hosts know the date, ask.
